Why 2019 is Vivid’s best year yet

When Vivid kicked off in 2009, the night was guided entirely by the lights on the sails of the Opera House. Whilst spectacular at the time, that really was about it.

Last Friday evening at 6pm, the 50 installations of Vivid 2019 lit up Circular Quay. Drones flew, crowds flocked and boats filled the harbour as everyone tried to get a peak.

As the festival of light, music and ideas kicks off for it’s tenth year, an expected 2.3 million people will flock to see city glow.

If the opening night is any indication of how the rest of the festival will play out, the crowds shouldn’t be as excessive as 2018.

Vivid will once again shine light on the MCA, Customs House, the Harbour Bridge, Taronga Zoo and the Opera House.

The Electric Playground had the longest of the queues, but it moved fast and was well worth the wait.

The 2019 festival will also see a range of new light installations, as well as various performances for music and ideas.

The food options at Vivid have also expanded tremendously for 2019.

Vivid has stepped up the food game for 2019.

Be sure to check out the sweet-tooth markets at the Circular Quay arch under the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The festival will run from May 24th until 15th of June. Head to VividSydney.com to check out the full schedule.
