Ohio local and junior reporter, Sylvia, shares her top picks for kids in Columbus.
Columbus, also known as the “C-Bus” is the capital of Ohio. Covering over 200 square miles, you’re sure to find something interesting. The city is named after Christopher Columbus and in 2018 was ranked the 15th largest city in the U.S. Below is a list of fun and exciting activities to do in Columbus. Enjoy!
COSI (Centre of Science and Industry)
When you walk into most museums, the first thing you see is the ticket counter. But when you walk into COSI, the first thing that you see may be the giant pendulum, the laser harp, or maybe even the 84 feet-long high wire unicycle that you can ride 17 feet above the ground! COSI teaches kids about all types of things, primarily science, but also geography, history, biology, architecture, and more. COSI also has temporary exhibits like most museums, but you wouldn’t be able to find some of them anywhere else. Some examples of interesting exhibits are the Hot Wheels: Race to Win exhibit and the Power to the Poison exhibit. COSI is also a great place to hold events and birthday parties.
The Candle Lab
The Candle Lab will entrance you in smells the moment you walk in. With Over 140 candles lined on the wall, you’re sure to find the perfect fragrance for any space or occasion. Each fragrance is available in candle, fragrance oil, reed diffuser, room spray, and wax tart form. The special part about The Candle Lab is getting to make your own candle. You mix your three favourite scents from their candle wall along with choosing a name for your candle and making a label for it. The Candle Lab is also great for parties or a little outing.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream
Jeni’s ice cream is centred in Columbus and is known for its creative flavours and its high-quality ingredients. Some of these Ingredients are Brambleberry Crisp, Brandied Banana Brulee, Gooey Butter Cake and Churro. It has been featured nationally in the press as an artisan ice cream maker, and won two Sofi Awards, an award given for the best and most innovative products in specialty food. You can ask almost anybody in Columbus where they should go to get ice cream and they will say Jeni’s.
I was born in Boise, Idaho (USA) and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio when I was two years old. The first time I traveled was on a plane to Minneapolis and I was only four weeks old. The longest time I spent on a plane was 23 hours long to China. My longest car ride was a 14 hour drive to Boston, Massachusetts. I am a vegetarian and I love Harry Potter.
