This is a great time to start booking in your annual leave for the rest of the year to maximise your time off in and around the public holidays. 2020 public holidays don’t align quite as well as they did in 2019, but they’re still worth factoring in when you book in order to max out your annual leave.
Living in New South Wales is a disadvantage when it comes to public holidays. We have the least number of public holidays of all the states. Tasmania has a whopping 24 public holidays and the Northern territory has every Friday off in July.
Get 16 days off at Easter and Christmas thanks to 2020 public holidays
Over Easter, you can negotiate an impressive 16 days off, using just eight days of leave.
The trick is to take four days of annual leave before Good Friday (10 April) and four days annual leave after Easter Monday (13 April), and you’ll be back at work beautifully rested for Monday April 20.
While Christmas 2020 sounds like a long way away, if you take seven days leave over this time will end up with 16 consecutive days off (unless of course you work in a job that observes a set shutdown period).
Start your Christmas break on Monday December 21, taking leave from then through to Thursday 24th. Then, thanks to Boxing Day falling on a Saturday, you’ll get Monday the 28th off, so your next leave block will be Tuesday 29th to Thursday 31st, before having New Year’s Day off on January 1st. Once you take into account weekends, you won’t have to return to work until January 4.
