Kids review the Qantas business lounge

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]An all-you-can-eat gelato bar, unlimited banana bread and soft drink on tap – it’s no wonder kids love the Qantas business lounge in Sydney.

The excitement starts in the Uber on the way to the airport with the kids talking about what they will eat before the flight. It swells to fever-pitch as we exit immigration and ride the escalator up to the lounge level at Sydney International Airport.

We’re not yet Qantas club members. I have been in for work. The kids know that so they have some idea of what is inside. Enough to make them curious. And jealous.

Many Qantas credit cards have two free lounge passes each year as a bonus. If both parents have Qantas credit cards – that gives you four lounge passes. It’s a great treat to begin, or end a family holiday overseas. And a good way to test the benefits of a Qantas club membership before you buy.

Children are allowed into the Qantas Business Lounge in Sydney. They have a dedicated play space for little ones. My kids are aged 7 and 9 – so they were more interested in the food and the view.

Once our passes were checked, the kids went straight for the gelato bar. Both kids still say this was the best thing about the Qantas lounge.

The Qantas Sydney business lounge offers a fabulous view over the tarmac. Kids (and big kids) will love to watch the planes load and unload. For parents is a great place to relax, post immigration hustle, and grab a casual glass of wine and a snack. A great selection of magazines is on offer – including our very own Out and About With Kids (soon to be Family Travel).

A fabulous selection of salads were included buffet-style for our visit. As per usual for Qantas, the wines were top quality.

For the kids, the refillable soft drinks were sheer delight. Parents will need to judge the sugar limits for their kids, considering they will be hopping onto an international fight shortly after. If your kids are the type that bounce off the walls, perhaps stick with the healthy options. There is a giant jug of water with ice and lemon on the self-service bar.

Left to make their own food choices – my two chose ginger beer.

Then they found the banana bread.

The eldest actually ate LESS breakfast just to make sure he had enough room for Qantas lounge treats.

If your flight is at an awkward time with your kids’ usual food schedule, the Qantas lounge is a great way to fill them up pre-flight. It also means they will have something in their stomachs if they turn their nose up at plane food.

One of the best things about the Qantas lounge is actually the bathrooms. They are crisp and clean with big mirrors and lovely-smelling soaps. My daughter loved washing her hands in the sink, drying and spreading moisturiser over her hands.

If you have a late flight, or you have been travelling all day, the Qantas lounge has showers. Once the kids have showered you can get them dressed in pyjamas ready for the flight. Plus, you will just feel so much better with a shower pre-flight.

If you’re a frequent traveller, the kids say the Qantas lounge is totally worth it. We can’t wait to see what happens when the lounge is upgraded next year.

The verdict:

Callum age 10: “The best things was the free ice-cream and the banana bread. I give it 10 out of 10”.

Amelie age 8: “I liked the gelato and the chocolate chip muffins. I give it 10 out of 10”.
